Equator
The Panama hat
Coming from a pre-Colombian tradition, the hat from Equator (not from Panama) took his name at the moment of the digging of the canal named in the same way. Today, some Ecuadorian villages communities live making this luxurious product known all other the world. From culture of "paja toquilla" to finish passing by raw material preparation and weaving, it’s an ancestral know-how that they perpetuate. Indians and half-breed that fabricate Panama hats, often in addition to their agricultural work, sometimes organised themselves in cooperatives, such as the Sigsig wives, to sell their products a decent price. |
